Mirage Cobras
Frontier Conference · Horizon Division · Play-action and misdirection
Profile
“Nothing is what it seems.”
The Mirage Cobras build their offense on illusion. Inspired by the schemes of Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, they make every play look the same before and just after the snap: the same formation, the same motion, the same first steps by the line, whether the ball is run, faked or thrown.
Jet motion crosses the formation on half of their snaps. Bootlegs move the quarterback away from the flow of the play, reverses punish defenders who chase too quickly, and the play-action passes are among the most effective in the league because the runs look identical.
The Cobras' offense is rated among the better units in the league; their defense is more ordinary. When the Cobras are on, defenders spend the afternoon tackling the wrong man.
Identity: fakes, motion, manipulating the defense.
Strengths
- Play-action and bootlegs
- Pre-snap motion
