Lattice Wolves
Frontier Conference · Summit Division · Modern spread and RPO
Profile
“Every defender has to choose.”
The Lattice Wolves run the modern spread built on run-pass options, in the style of the 2017 Philadelphia offense designed by Doug Pederson and Frank Reich. On many plays the line blocks a run while the quarterback reads one defender: if he plays the run, the ball goes out to a receiver; if he drops into coverage, the back gets the handoff.
Bubble screens, tunnel screens and quick throws to the perimeter spread the defense horizontally, and zone runs attack the space that opens in the middle. The aim is to create numerical advantages: if the defense puts six players in the box, the Wolves block six and throw outside; if it puts seven, they throw.
The Wolves are hard to stop on early downs and rarely face long third downs. Defenses that disguise their intentions after the snap, rather than showing them before, can slow the reads down.
Identity: spacing, numbers, make every defender choose.
Strengths
- Efficient on early downs
- Creates numerical advantages
- Few long third downs
Weaknesses
- Disguised defenses complicate the reads
- Fewer deep shots
