Meridian Owls
Frontier Conference · Summit Division · Strategic, territorial, patient
Profile
“Win the field. Then win the game.”
The Meridian Owls play the long game. Their philosophy echoes Jim Tressel's “Tresselball”: field position first, the clock second, and no unnecessary risk. A punt pinned inside the opponent's ten-yard line is, for the Owls, a good play.
Their special teams unit is among the very best in the league and a genuine weapon: long, precise punts, reliable kicks and coverage that rarely gives up returns. On offense the Owls favour runs, screens and draws on long downs instead of forcing throws; on defense they play a bend-but-don't-break Cover 2 and Cover 3 that gives up yards between the twenties and tightens near the goal line.
The Owls rarely put up big numbers, and they do not need to. Their best games look quiet in the box score: the opponent starts every drive deep in its own territory and runs out of field before it runs out of downs.
Identity: field position, special teams, discipline.
