Cipher Lynx
Frontier Conference · Summit Division · Dynamic, elusive, deceptive (option)
Profile
“Make them guess. Make them wrong.”
The Cipher Lynx run an offense built on deception and quarterback mobility. Their roots are Chris Ault's Pistol formation and Urban Meyer's spread option: a quarterback a few yards behind the center, a back directly behind him, and every play offering two or three possible ball carriers.
Read-option, jet sweeps and orbit motion force defenders to stay disciplined in their assignment. A linebacker who crashes on the running back leaves the quarterback free to keep the ball; an end who waits for the quarterback lets the back run past. Nearly half of their snaps feature motion.
On defense the Lynx are solid without being spectacular. Their identity lives on offense, where they ask opponents to be patient and perfect. Against undisciplined defenses, the Lynx can rack up rushing yards from the quarterback position alone.
Identity: mobility, reads, deception.
